I have thirty plus years in education and retired in 2013 from Livingston ISD. I began teaching in Livingston in 1986, but prior to teaching in Livingston I also taught in Liberty, Orangefield, Burkeville, Anahuac and Winnie/Stowell ISD. I had the privilege of being the first Life Skills teacher for the district back in 1988. I worked in that position for approximately 13 years. I also began the first program for deaf children in Livingston. Most of my teaching experience was in those two teaching fields. I am thrilled to be back where I originally started….Life Skills is a program I have always been proud to work in and have allowed me to teach some of Livingston’s best students. I enjoy working with families of children with special needs and hope to help them see their children grow and develop into the best they can possibly be! I love coming to work each day to such a fine administration and teaching team. I leave each day feeling excited about what the next day will bring!
My husband, Coach James Smart, and I have been married for almost forty years. He is a retired teacher/coach for the Livingston ISD. He is happily retired and enjoys playing golf, hunting and fishing. We have two daughters, Dorothy and Karie. Both of our girls graduated from Livingston. Dorothy is happily married and is the mother of an adorable boy named Kai William. She and her family live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Our younger daughter, Karie is happily living and working in Austin, Texas.
