LISD School Board Recognition

January is School Board Recognition Month and Livingston Independent School District is honored to celebrate its trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district’s schools and students.
“I am extremely proud of our Board of Trustees.  Navigating a position of trustee in a pandemic is beyond difficult due to the turbulent times which we live in.  They exercise governance over a district that has positioned itself by not only serving the students of our community but providing elite opportunities for our students like no one within our geographic area. The students of our district benefit by being better prepared, better skilled, and better educated for their post-secondary school opportunities because of our board’s vision.  This was accomplished in the most challenging time where many hard decisions had to be made for all students while keeping a focus on the learning of every student.  I am honored to work with this team that expends many hours of time in training and preparation to make a difference in the next generation of our community.”  Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins said. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”
Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board members are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools. The Livingston Independent School District board is responsible for an annual budget of $40,067,136 million, 4,021 students, 536 employees and 7 campuses.
“School boards are essential to a strong public education system,” Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Director Dan Troxell said. “They provide the local governance and oversight that makes it possible for school districts to serve students, including establishing a strategic plan, adopting policies, approving a budget and selecting and evaluating a superintendent. It’s fitting that we celebrate them in January as their leadership is key to the success of every school district in Texas.”
Board members serving LISD are: Board President Ben Ogletree, Vice President Scott Paske, Secretary Krissa Bass, Trustee Marty Drake, Trustee John Allen Slocomb, Trustee Kevin Wooten and Trustee Bea Ellis.
