Pine Ridge Music classes are exploring Music in other disciplines and in real-world situations. The students are always learning songs that may incorporate sign language. Sign Language helps with memorization and fluency when singing while learning a new language. The students are also learning that Music not only can be in different languages but also be extended as a Science. They learned that Music comes from physical vibrations moving through the air, as in sound waves. If a person is deaf, they cannot HEAR music, but they can FEEL the music. Therefore, MUSIC is for everyone. To start, the children listened to the book "Moses Goes to a Concert" which is about a deaf child and his fellow students who attend a concert performance of a deaf musician. The teacher in the story gives the students balloons to feel the music through the musical pieces as they are performed. Pine Ridge students took it further, not only being able to feel the music through the balloon when music is played but also to see vibrations being made from the sound waves transferring from their voices to the balloon. Rice was used in the balloons to have the children see the rice wobble from low sounds all the way too chaotic, high bounces with high vocal pitches.
